S.J. Ewing and Dancers Works

Transit

I am currently using Microsoft Kinect Software, Processing, and Isadora to produce interactive projections. They will be used in the upcoming dance performance: Transit.

Transit is an original dance-theater work created that is performed by the S. J. Ewing and Dancer’s Company.  It is to be presented in the Dupont Underground across four performances.  The work asks – as we move through time – what bridges our intangible interior lives with the physically constructed environments we have built.

Transit uses motion capture technology to inform the animation of the projections which cover the interior of the tunnel surface.  The dancers evoke

our interior worlds while the tunnel walls, and the narrow and linear nature of the space evokes the external world and our journey through it.  The interaction of dancer to projection illustrates the engagement of these two worlds.

TRANSIT will be created and presented through a Performance, Event and Festival Grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities with the support of CulturalDC’s Inaugural Space4: Performing Arts season and CityDance.

Transit was performed on April 6th – 8th at DuPont Underground in Washington D.C.
